When Matt’s friend Sabrina contacted me a little over a week ago to see about photographing his proposal to Emily I was super excited since I’ve never photographed a proposal before! I’ve been wanting the chance to secretly photograph a proposal so this just perfect! It was even better when I met Matt and discovered what a nice, sweet person he was and then I knew Emily was a pretty lucky girl! We started to plan the location for it to all happen, so for it to be a surprise and not have Emily see me, we needed a place that had lots of light at night, wasn’t too busy and had a good place for me to hide, so the grounds at the Legislature by the skating rink was perfect! Matt planned on taking Emily there to see the Christmas lights after taking her to see the Nutcracker (how sweet is he???). The plan fell into place perfectly, it was almost too easy. And then Saturday came with worst round of freezing rain I’d ever seen in Edmonton. Uh oh. I left early hoping it wouldn’t be too hard to get there and spent an hour laying out in the snow, probably creeping out the other people walking around the Legislature that night (yes, strange person in full snow gear with a big camera creeping behind a wall is kinda suspicious… I’m glad no one called security on me!) and then I finally saw them! It happened so fast! There they were in the perfect spot. They stopped, Matt dropped to one knee… and well, the pictures will show you the rest! I got goosebumps watching it then and I still get goosebumps looking at the photos now! I’m so happy I got to capture such a special moment for these two amazing people! And after it was done, Emily realized they’d been caught on camera! I took them to warm up and drink some hot chocolate and just be together before we went for a few photos in the Christmas lights. It was really was perfect and I loved being a ninja proposal photographer!! Congratulations to Matt & Emily!! Enjoy the photos!
