I try to keep things pretty much all about the business here (yes, maybe with the occasional kitty picture slipped in because they are so darn cute) but I decided to share some photos from our recent getaway to Chicago in October when I had a short break between weddings.
The first time I went to Chicago was 4 years ago, also in October. The last time we went I didn’t bring a camera… nothing. I didn’t think I’d need to take photos on vacation. Boy, was I wrong. I went out and bought a point & shoot camera while I was there, but that didn’t do the city justice, so this time I brought a camera and had some fun photographing the amazing architecture that Chicago is known for. As a rule, I’m not a big fan of landscapes. I look at scenery and all I can think about is getting some people put in there to make the scenery even better (I couldn’t stop thinking about how I would love to photograph weddings there!). Next time I go to Chicago I am determined to photograph some people there. (Hint: If you’re getting married in Chicago, we need to talk!! I will travel!). So for now, here are a few photos from one of the architectural boat tour that we took… If you make it past all of those photos, you’ll be rewarded (or punished depending on your outlook) with some of the photos of the portrait session of Derek (my husband) and I from the photo session that we booked with gina&tony|photographers while we were in Chicago at this most amazing location, Salvage One. Derek & I have never had professional photos taken of us, ever. Not even on our wedding day. I tend to shy away from being in front of the camera but it was decided that it was time for us to start being in photos together and Gina & Tony did such a great job photographing us!
It was a bit of a learning experience for me to be on the other side of the camera and it really reiterated how important it is to make your subject have fun and relax when they are being photographed… it makes a huge difference! It almost made me realize that I need to be in photos more often, because the photos aren’t just for me, they are for the people that love me too. So now I’m going to do my best to have photos with me & Derek at least once a year now. I love the idea of having a portrait session while we are on vacation too to help remember the trip and that time in our lives. Thank you so much Gina & Tony for capturing these memories! If you are in Chicago and you’d like to have photos taken (and you haven’t taken me along, but please, take me too!) get in touch with gina&tony|photographers to book your own portrait session!
