Emerald Lake Lodge Wedding | Emerald Lake wedding Photographer
When I first met Laura they had planned to have an Emerald Lake Elopement, but plans changed over time and they ended up having a small wedding at Emerald Lake Lodge with their kids & their family to celebrate their wedding. Laura & Kris’ wedding was the first time I had the pleasure of being an Emerald Lake Wedding photographer and I am hooked! I absolutely adore Emerald Lake Lodge and the spectacular surroundings for engagement and wedding photos (we actually started off the day with a short engagement session on Emerald Lake with Laura & Kris). With the mountains, it’s not unusual to see four different types of weather all in one day and that’s exactly what we got. There were rainbows and sunshine and wind and rain and then it happened all over again. The unexpected weather would ruffle some brides, but not Laura. She was so chill and just rolled with it. Laura & Kris both got ready in their cabin but they didn’t see each other before the ceremony. They had an early evening ceremony on the Lookout with beautiful views in all directions. Following the ceremony, the rain started just as we were starting to do portraits. We were greeted with a rainbow so we took that as a great sign! Even with the rain pouring down, we just continued to take photos to celebrate their big day. Even though the couple got a little soggy, the photos were beautiful! We wandered around the lake and into the trails for some more photos before heading back for the reception in the President’s Room. They kicked off the reception with the cake cutting & the first dance and had the rest of the night to enjoy themselves. I loved being an Emerald Lake Wedding Photographer and I look forward to my next time at Emerald Lake Lodge! Enjoy the story of Laura & Kris’s wedding at Emerald Lake Lodge!

From the Couple:
What were you most looking forward to on your wedding day? Finally becoming a Flinkman! I was so excited to finally just be married. It was a perfect day.
What ended up being your favourite moment(s) of the day (both answer)? Kris: We had Talon tape the ceremony on Kris’s iPhone for us. At the end of the night when all the festivities were over, we layed in bed and watched the video. She stopped the recording after we shared our first kiss and turned out towards the crowd and I’m smiling and where it froze on Kris, it looked like he was wiping his mouth with the most disgusted look on his face. I looked at him and was like “What the hell is that?! You look disgusted that you just kissed me!!” He swears he was about to cough. But we couldn’t stop laughing together for about twenty minutes, full on laughing with tears running down our faces we were laughing so hard because the end of our wedding video will forever have this look of disgust on Kris’s face. For myself, besides also having that video, I loved the moments that Kris made me laugh. He can be so awkward and just not know what to do and it just makes me laugh. Like when the photographer asked him to whisper something in my ear, most men might try and whisper something sexy to their bride to be, not Kris, he froze and said “I’m whispering in your ear…”. Or the other time was when we were on the way down to the lodge and I asked Kris if he wanted to go over the vows I picked, because again, he really didn’t care what I picked, and he was confident he had it all down. So I told him at the very least remember “I do”, and “I will”. Instead when we were exchanging vows he froze and cut Kim off saying I do twice. It was very funny to me and it made me laugh.
What was the song you chose for the processional? Falling by Jamestown Story featuring Corey Wagar
What was the song you chose for your first dance? Feels Like home by Chantal Kreviazuk
How did you choose your colour scheme/theme for the wedding? Well I had absolutely nothing but white in mind. Kris picked his own suit which was a Navy suit, white shirt, and grey tie. We were supposed to elope, just the two of us. We tried to get our daughter to take a bottle since she was born and she absolutely refused so two weeks before the wedding I made the decision that our two kids would also be coming. Then the parents had convinced me if we just invite them too, they could be there for the wedding which is what they wanted, they could watch the kids so we could still do our thing and go get our photos like we wanted but Shanley would still be there to nurse. So I had some coral flowers that went on Shanley’s dress that I picked out, I added some coral flowers to her flower girl wagon (that she never got to use because she wasn’t in a very good mood that day from teething and just too much going on). So there I had white, navy, grey, and now coral. So since we changed it to a small family wedding two weeks before (once we invited parents, Kris said siblings had to be invited as well), we were easily able to add on Nic’s suit rental for the best man, but by the time I could take Katie shopping for the bridesmaid dress it was 4 days before the wedding and they didn’t have anything coral in her size in stock so we found the navy dress in her size and a flower girl bow that we sewed on the back to tie in to the boys grey ties. We also had her shoes dyed grey to match. So basically, it was a sweet, simple wedding but with all the last minute changes, I took whatever I could get, there was no time for ordering or being picky and I still love how it all came together and worked out.
Where are you going for your honeymoon? Home, with our children that won’t leave our sides yet lol. We will probably take a vacation honeymoon in a year or two, just the two of us, but we have no solid plans or places in mind that we would like to go yet.
Thank you to Carlin for being my awesome second shooter!
