A little about me…
Hi! I’m Elizabeth van der Bij, but you can call me Beth 😉 I am the face behind the camera at ENV Photography! In case you were wondering why I picked ENV, I started my business shortly after I got married and loved my new initials (ENV is so much better than END!), so I just decided to roll with it! Oh, and you say it like “envy”, not E-N-V.
For my “About Me” I could talk about my passion for photography and how I’ve loved it for years, but really, if I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t be doing it! I’m kinda stubborn that way.
I adore kitties! I am most definitely a crazy cat lady. I have a small army of furbabies so I’m always covered in fur. I would save all the kitties in the world if I could to make sure they all have homes and the love that they deserve. I also volunteer at a kitty rescue every week. 🙂
I love everything vampire (and yes, I admit, I even like the sparkly ones)! I fell in love with the Lost Boys way back in 1987 (I was nine!) and it’s been an obsession ever since. I do love Monster Squad almost as much as the Lost Boys! 80’s horror movies are the best! And I love all things Tim Burton, past and present!
…and I like to read… whenever I have free time. About vampires (of course), dystopian societies, Harry Potter and anything else that strikes my fancy. If you’ve read something great that you’d think I’d like, please tell me!
I’m an avid tea drinker. I’m especially obsessed with black teas from David’s Tea! I also own way too many mugs and teacups.
I’m addicted to leopard print, plaid and polka dots and I’m not ashamed to admit it. So far I’ve managed to avoid wearing all three at once.
I am very much smitten with my husband Derek. We met scandalously one hot June night in Montreal years ago and we’ve been inseparable ever since! Derek is part of the ENV Photography team in the shadows assisting with image curating and editing (and we’re hoping to get him behind a camera soon too!).
Here’s a few photos of me at work (and you can watch my ever changing hair colours!).
About my Photography Style…
Oh, there’s lots of words I could use to describe my photography style… like romantic, modern, carefree and candid. Well, and happy. Especially happy. Wedding photos should look like you are enjoying yourself and you’re happy to be there! It doesn’t need to look super serious! Happy always wins for me. I love light, bright and happy images. I just can’t do dark and moody. I’m not that cool and trendy. Besides, I’m brooding enough inside my own head that I’d rather create something that makes me happy to look at. So that means our time working together will be spent laughing… either with me or at me, whatever it takes to make great images! I want to give you timeless images that will bring you joy to look at in the years to come.
I’m more about the people rather than the stuff. I do take detail photos, but I don’t fixate on them. I think a wedding dress looks better on a person than hung in a window. I want to show your rings on your hands, not on a pile of flowers. I might obsess a bit over your shoes though, fair warning!
My editing style is pretty straightforward… clean, crisp & bright. Sharp & in-focus photos are a must! I’m not a Photoshop artist, I’m a photographer first and foremost, so I try to make it look how I want in camera with just a little stylistic flair added in post-production. I stay pretty consistent with my style.
I am a city girl that loves photographing people in nature. I love the diverse landscape of the Prairies from the fields to parks to the mountains. My heart really does belong to the mountains so I love photographing in Banff, Canmore, Kananaskis, Calgary, Cochrane, Emerald Lake, Lake Louise, Jasper and I look forward to travelling more for throughout Canada and the rest of the world for weddings!
If you’re cool with all that, I’d love to be your photographer so e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or use the contact form to get in touch!
